ABOUT THIS TOOL
The Competition Weight Calculator helps athletes estimate the optimal weight class for their sport based on current body weight, body fat percentage, and specific athletic discipline. Whether you're a wrestler, boxer, MMA fighter, or powerlifter, making weight safely is crucial for performance and health.
Our model uses standard weight class boundaries from major federations (UFC, IWF, IPF, UWW). The calculator suggests a competition weight by considering lean body mass: if you provide body fat, we estimate a minimal safe competition weight (typically 5β8% for men, 12β16% for women). The tool then maps that to the nearest appropriate class. If no body fat is entered, we use a sport-specific adjustment (e.g., boxing often has same-day weigh-ins, so we reduce water weight cautiously).
For wrestling and judo, same-day weigh-ins allow limited dehydration, so we target a 2-4% drop from walking weight. Boxing/MMA with day-before weigh-ins can safely aim 3-6% with proper rehydration. Powerlifting and weightlifting typically compete in the weight class you train at; the calculator shows the closest class without extreme cutting.
Important: This tool provides estimates only β always consult a coach or nutritionist before drastic weight cuts. The calculator does not encourage unhealthy practices; it's designed for awareness. We incorporate data from ACSM and NSCA guidelines. The result displays the suggested competition weight and the corresponding weight class name (e.g., lightweight, heavyweight).
All calculations are performed locally in your browser. No data is sent to servers. The light blue background gives a calm, focused environment. Remember that optimal competition weight depends on many factors: bone density, muscle mass, and personal health. Use this as a starting point for discussions with your trainer.
